Nasopharyngeal airway (NPA) = nasopharyngeal tube

Nasopharyngeal airway, also known as NPA, nasal trumpet (because of the flared end), nasal tube, is a type of airway adjunct, it is a tube that is designed to be inserted into the nasal passage to provide a open respiratory. . When a patient becomes unconscious, the jaw muscles commonly relax and may allow the tongue to slide back and block the airway. This makes airway management necessary, and an NPA is one of the tools available. The purpose of the flared end is to prevent the device from being lost in the patient's nose.

Characteristics
An oxygen mask or bag mask vent can be applied on top if needed
Prevents epiglottis covering the tongue in patients with low GCS.
Better tolerated than oropharyngeal airways in more alert patients.
Women of average height require a size 6 NPA and men of average height a size 7 NPA
